Confined Spaces & Working at Heights
This nationally recognised course set combines RIIWHS202E – Enter and Work in Confined Spaces and RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights, designed for individuals working in high-risk operational environments across construction, mining, and industrial sectors.
This training is suitable for both new and experienced personnel who are required to safely enter confined spaces and perform work at heights, with a strong focus on hazard identification, risk control, and practical safety application.
Participants will develop the knowledge and hands-on skills required to work safely, comply with legislative requirements, and respond effectively in real-world scenarios.
Course Duration
Delivery options available:
Face-to-Face: Minimum 2 days (approx. 12 hours total)
Blended (Online + Practical):
Online pre-course: 4–6 hours
Face-to-face practical: 1 day

Assessment
Participants will be assessed through:
Written knowledge assessments
Practical demonstrations
Scenario-based training exercises
All assessments must be completed successfully to achieve competency.

Minimum age: 14 years (with parental permission)
Certification Validity

Course Content
Confined Spaces (RIIWHS202E)
Participants will learn to:
Identify what constitutes a confined space
Understand hazards, risks, and atmospheric dangers
Interpret and apply confined space entry permits
Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures
Use gas detection and atmospheric monitoring equipment
Select, fit, and use appropriate PPE
Safely enter, work in, and exit confined spaces
Apply isolation and lock-out/tag-out procedures
Use communication systems effectively
Participate in emergency response procedures
Inspect and maintain confined space equipment
Working at Heights (RIIWHS204E)
Participants will learn to:
Identify height-related hazards and risks
Understand legislation and duty of care requirements
Conduct risk assessments for working at heights
Select and use appropriate fall protection systems
Correctly fit and adjust harnesses and equipment
Install and use anchor systems and edge protection
Work safely on structures and elevated platforms
Inspect and maintain height safety equipment
Understand limitations of fall arrest and restraint systems
Who This Course is For
This course is suitable for individuals working or intending to work in high-risk environments, including construction, mining, civil, maintenance, and industrial sectors.
It is appropriate for both new entrants and experienced workers who are required to enter confined spaces and/or work at heights as part of their role.
Important Information
Participants must be physically capable of undertaking practical training activities, including:
Wearing and working in a safety harness
Climbing and working at heights
Entering and exiting confined spaces
Using safety and rescue equipment
A reasonable level of fitness, mobility, and confidence working in high-risk environments is required.
