Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is the required qualification for those working with infants and children in education and childcare environments.
This course equips you with the practical skills and confidence to respond to a wide range of first aid situations involving children, including injuries, medical conditions, and emergency incidents. You’ll learn how to provide immediate care and ongoing support until professional help arrives.
Training is delivered in line with the latest Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, ensuring you are using current, trusted first aid practices tailored to education and care settings.
Course Duration
This is a blended course combining online learning with in-person training. Students are required to complete the online pre-course work prior to attending the face-to-face practical assessment. The online component can be completed in one sitting or across multiple sessions at your own pace.
Online Learning: Allow up to 4 hours
Face-to-Face Training & Assessment: 2 hours
Assessment
Students are assessed through a combination of written, practical, and scenario-based activities to ensure competency across all required areas, including both knowledge and hands-on skills.
Age Requirement
Minimum age: 14 years (parental permission required)
Certification Validity
HLTAID009 – Provide CPR: 12 months
HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support: 36 months
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid: 36 months
HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting: 36 months
Course Content
In this course, you will learn to:
Recognise and assess an emergency situation
Ensure safety for yourself, children, bystanders, and the casualty
Respond to emergencies involving infants, children, and adults
Seek assistance from emergency services
Perform CPR in line with current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines
Provide first aid following established principles
Manage and comfort the casualty, including children, and obtain consent where possible
Use first aid equipment safely and effectively
Monitor the casualty and respond to changes in their condition
Accurately communicate incident details to emergency services
Complete workplace documentation and maintain confidentiality
Recognise psychological impacts on yourself and others and seek support if needed
Contribute to reviewing the first aid response when required
Certificate Issuance
A PDF Statement of Attainment will be issued on the same day following successful completion of the course, provided a valid USI has been supplied and all assessments have been completed.
Safe Work Australia recommends renewing CPR (HLTAID009) every 12 months. The full HLTAID012 qualification is valid for 3 years.

Who This Course is For
This course is designed for those working in education and care settings, including childcare, early learning, and school environments. It is suitable for both beginners and those with existing first aid experience who are comfortable with blended learning.
Important Information
Students must be able to perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin, child manakin and infant manakin.
