Gas Test Atmospheres

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the essential qualification for meeting workplace first aid requirements.

In this course, you’ll gain the practical skills and confidence to respond to a range of first aid situations. You’ll learn how to manage injuries and medical emergencies, and provide care until professional help arrives.

Training follows the latest guidelines from the Australian Resuscitation Council, so you’ll be learning the most up-to-date, trusted first aid practices.

Course Duration

  • Online with Face-to-Face (up to 5 students) Min. duration 120 minutes.

Assessment

Students are assessed through:Practical demonstrationsScenario-based activitiesKnowledge-based written assessmentThis ensures competency in operating gas detection equipment and interpreting atmospheric conditions.

Age Requirement

Minimum age: 14 years

Certification Validity

There is no formal expiry; however, industry best practice recommends refresher training every 2 years or as required by workplace procedures.

Course Content

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Identify hazardous atmospheres and confined space risks.

  • Understand oxygen deficiency and enrichment hazards.

  • Detect flammable gases and vapours.

  • Identify toxic gases and airborne contaminants.

  • Use and operate gas detection and monitoring equipment.

  • Interpret gas test readings and results.

  • Apply workplace procedures and permit requirements.

  • Conduct pre-entry and continuous atmospheric monitoring.

  • Identify and implement control measures.

  • Maintain and check equipment for safe operation.

  • Communicate results and complete required documentation.

Certificate Issuance

Participants must be physically capable of undertaking practical tasks, including:

  • Operating gas detection equipmentWorking in or around confined spaces.

  • Following safety procedures in high-risk environments.

  • A reasonable level of literacy is required to interpret readings and complete documentation..
